Description

I took a bright but rather plain living room and gave it warmth, personality, and a gentle sense of welcome.

The original space was calm and neutral—soft beige walls, a simple sofa with pale green pillows, and a quiet circle of wooden tables. It felt open, but a little flat, like a room still waiting for its story.

I began by swapping the plain ceiling light for a generous woven pendant that now hangs like a soft lantern, casting a golden glow across the room. On the back wall I introduced a beautifully carved mirror framed in soft turquoise and gold, flanked by two slender sconces. The mirror reflects the light and instantly makes the room feel deeper and more collected.

To bring in color and life, I layered the sofa with rich navy, warm coral, and a gentle stripe, then replaced the lamps with a pair of blue-and-white ceramic ones that echo the mirror’s tones. A tall olive tree in a terracotta pot now softens the right side of the room, while a low, whitewashed round coffee table—topped with books and a bowl of lemons—anchors the center with an easy, relaxed charm.

The result is still light and airy, but now it feels gathered and lived-in, as if the room has finally exhaled and invited you to stay awhile.
