I've transformed this living room from a traditional, wall-hugging layout into a more open, layered, and inviting space.
In the before version, the sofa sat flush against the back wall, framed by matching side tables and lamps that created a very symmetrical, almost formal arrangement. While it felt balanced, it also made the room feel a bit flat and closed off.
For the after, I pulled the sofa forward off the wall to create breathing room and a sense of depth. I replaced the matching end tables with a tall, sculptural floor lamp on the left and a low, clean-lined console on the right, topped with a bold piece of abstract art. This shift gives the room more visual rhythm and allows the beautiful windows to feel more open and less “boxed in.” The round coffee table and soft area rug remain as the cozy heart of the space, but now the room feels lighter, more modern, and thoughtfully balanced—perfect for both relaxing and conversation.
