A Gold Mirror Brightens This Gustavian Living Room

I've transformed this living room from a calm, neutral space into one that feels warm, inviting, and full of quiet character.

Where the room once felt very modern and understated—with its plain beige walls, simple wooden tables, and large solid rug—it now has a gentle, collected charm. I introduced a soft blue-and-cream patterned rug that adds movement and depth underfoot, while swapping the round coffee table for a crisp white rectangular one that feels fresh and timeless.

The biggest shift came from layering in a few meaningful pieces: a stately grandfather clock now stands gracefully by the French doors, bringing height and history to the left side of the room. Above the sofa, a beautiful gold-framed mirror reflects light and makes the space feel even more open and elegant. I replaced the side tables with delicate white pedestal styles and added a lush fern in a classic urn, which brings life and softness to the right side.

Even the curtains were updated to a gentle gray with subtle detailing, perfectly complementing the new palette. The result is a room that still feels serene, but now tells a story—one that feels both personal and welcoming.
