I took this once-quiet, almost neutral living room and gave it warmth, personality, and a gentle sense of welcome.
In the “before” version, the space felt calm but a little flat—everything was the same soft beige, with very little contrast or texture. I kept the beautiful bones (the high ceilings, the French doors, and the generous windows) but layered in color, pattern, and life so the room now feels like it’s been thoughtfully collected over time.
I swapped the plain rug for one with a soft blue pattern that quietly picks up the new pillow colors and ties the whole seating area together. The sofa stayed, but I dressed it in a mix of deep blues, soft greens, and a cheerful patterned pillow to add depth and a touch of playfulness.
On the walls, I added a large round mirror above the sofa to bounce light around the room and make the space feel even airier, plus a few pieces of art that bring in gentle coastal and natural tones without feeling overly themed.
A tall fiddle-leaf fig tree now fills the once-empty corner, and the new terracotta-orange lamps and vase add a warm, earthy accent that makes the whole palette feel richer.
Finally, I swapped the curtains for a textured linen in a warmer beige and added woven baskets by the door—small touches that make the room feel lived-in and inviting rather than simply finished. The result is still calm and comfortable, but now it has heart.
