I took this once-quiet, almost blank living room and gave it a rich, collected personality while keeping its graceful bones intact.
The room already had beautiful proportions and warm wood floors, so I leaned into that. Where there was once a pale, understated sofa, I brought in a deep emerald-green velvet one that feels lush and inviting. In front of it, a vintage-style trunk now serves as the coffee table, grounding the space with warmth and history.
The biggest transformation came through layering. I replaced the simple curtains with a soft, patterned fabric that adds movement and depth, and swapped the modest rug for a large, richly colored Persian-style carpet layered with a plush white sheepskin for contrast and softness. The walls, once bare, are now a thoughtfully arranged gallery of paintings and prints centered around a dramatic sunburst mirror that catches the light from the new crystal chandelier overhead.
I also introduced tall fiddle-leaf fig trees in decorative ceramic pots to bring life and height into the corners, and placed matching vintage-style lamps on either side of the sofa to create a warm, balanced glow in the evening. The result is a room that still feels open and airy, but now tells a story—one that feels personal, gathered over time, and deeply welcoming.
