When I first walked into this room, it felt calm but a little flat—like a beautiful blank page that was waiting for a story. The bones were good: warm wood floors, soft natural light, and that lovely view to the backyard. But it needed personality, warmth, and a sense of being lived in.
I wanted the space to feel like a quiet retreat, so I started by swapping the simple ceiling light for a large woven pendant that brings organic texture and a soft, glowing warmth when it’s lit. I then layered in natural elements throughout: a tall olive tree in a textured pot to soften the right side of the room, and two new side tables with a lighter, timeworn finish that feel more relaxed than the previous ones.
The coffee table was replaced with a substantial, light-toned drum style that feels grounded and sculptural. I chose new lamps with soft green ceramic bases to echo the colors outside the windows, and added a few simple ceramics on the table for quiet interest. On the left wall, a single piece of abstract art introduces a gentle hint of the sea and sky, giving the eye something beautiful to land on.
The biggest shift, though, is the feeling. Where the room once felt like a showroom, it now feels like a place you’d want to curl up with a book or enjoy a slow Sunday morning. Everything still feels light and serene, just much more welcoming and personal.
