As a professional interior designer with a passion for creating serene, personalized spaces, I was thrilled to take on this cozy bathroom transformation. The goal was to evolve it from a simple, rustic retreat into a charming, romantic haven that feels like a gentle escape into a blooming garden—while keeping the core elements practical and timeless. Let me walk you through what we started with and how we brought it to life.
Originally, the bathroom had a warm, natural vibe that leaned into Scandinavian-inspired minimalism with a touch of boho flair. The walls were clad in light wood paneling, giving the space a cozy, cabin-like feel, and the ceiling matched with its soft, sloped lines. A sleek white bathtub sat nestled against the wall, enclosed by clear glass for an open, airy shower setup. The wooden vanity provided ample storage with its drawers and cabinets, topped by a simple countertop sink. Accessories were understated: a woven pendant light hung overhead, casting a soft glow; a round mirror with a natural rope frame added texture; and neutral elements like potted plants, ceramic vases, and a woven rug brought in subtle earthiness. Towels draped neatly on hooks, and a small window let in natural light, but the overall palette was muted—think soft beiges, woods, and whites—creating a calm but somewhat plain sanctuary.
For the "after" glow-up, I wanted to infuse personality and whimsy without overwhelming the room's compact size. We kept the foundational pieces—like the wood-paneled walls, bathtub, and vanity—to maintain that inviting warmth, but layered in romantic, vintage-inspired details to make it feel more alive and feminine. Starting with the window, we added flowing curtains in a delightful floral print with soft pinks, greens, and blues, which not only soften the light filtering in but also introduce a pop of pattern that ties the space together. Above the vanity, we swapped the woven mirror for a classic round one with a subtle gold frame, flanked by a pair of framed botanical prints that evoke old-world charm—like pressed flowers from a secret garden.
To enhance the cozy factor, I introduced a small wooden stool beside the tub, perfect for perching bath essentials or just adding a spot to unwind. The lighting got an upgrade too: a fringed pendant light now dangles above, bringing a playful, textured elegance that dances with the room's natural light. On the floor, we replaced the plain woven rug with a vintage-style one featuring intricate floral motifs in rosy hues, anchoring the space with warmth and pattern. Fresh touches like a vase of blush pink roses on the vanity and a few strategically placed plants breathe life and color into the neutrals, while keeping everything functional—towels still hang ready, and the radiator stays tucked neatly by the vanity.
The result? A bathroom that feels transformed from understated rustic to enchantingly romantic, like stepping into a cozy cottage where every detail invites relaxation. It's now a space that not only functions beautifully for daily routines but also sparks joy with its subtle nods to nature and nostalgia.
